CHOOSE YOUR MOVER CAREFULLY

Why Hire A Professional Mover?

Without a doubt, moving is hard; and we get that! A moving professional such as Wee-Move will bring the tools and equipment necessary for every moving job. Also, professional movers have already undergone hands-on training and have passed a series of tests.

Yes, if you choose, you can rent your own moving truck and ask your friends & family to help you move. And if you do so, more power to you! Consider your options, not only will you benefit from the experience a mover brings with them, but also their knowledge will speed up the move while protecting your belongings during their relocation.

How Can I Find A Local Moving Company?

A great way to start is by diving into Google.com. Some of the terms you can use are: movers, moving, movers Laredo tx, moving companies, home moving, home movers, office movers, moving services in Laredo, Laredo movers, Laredo moving companies, and more…

Essentially you can compare local moving companies that have the highest number of reviews and ratings. This will give you more or less an idea of the volume of work the company takes in plus, it gives you an insight into what to expect.

#MovingTip: if the moving company you contact can provide you with free moving tips on how to save on your move; or gives you the best advice even if it means not receiving your business, then it’s safe to say they truly care about you as a person rather than a $ symbol.

Before You Move FAQs

When Should I Start Contacting Moving Companies?

As a personal opinion, the sooner you can, the better. Reaching out to local movers doesn’t mean that you have to immediately hire their services. It is important that you understand what they will provide first. Some moving companies may charge lower rates than others. Even though this seems “ideal”, sometimes it’s best to scratch past the surface. For example, if a company does have a low moving rate, make sure to ask the SIZE of the moving truck they will be using and ask if their truck has a ramp. While you may be trying to save a buck, it may be counter-productive because it only makes sense to consider what you will be receiving for the moving service you hire.

How far in advance should I schedule my move?

Yesterday! Kidding 🙂 Truthfully, the best way to approach this question is by asking yourself if you have already decided on your moving date and/or if you have confirmed your move-in property’s availability to move in. Simply put, as soon as you know the date the new property is available, call to set up your moving appointment. Scheduling your move ahead will give your mover time to assign the right people for the job. Plus, it depends on how far ahead you called, will give them the opportunity to make sure there is availability to do the move.

#MovingTip It’s not recommended that you hire a mover the same day or the next day. Trust us, this is chaos for a moving company. However, if this is your only option, you may want to consider renting your own moving truck. The reason I say this is because if a mover is already booked, it is easier to find the labor for your move rather than coordinate the moving truck’s availability at a moment’s notice.

Do I need a moving estimate?

Yes and No. A moving estimate is another way of saying moving quotes, moving proposals, or orders for service. They all essentially say the same thing; how much can you expect to pay for your move? Depending on how the moving company charges for its services, you can expect consistent rates when charged hourly. If this is the case, the best practice is to be prepared ahead of your mover (make sure everything is already in boxes, all drawers have been emptied, etc.).

Another type of estimate is by weight and service tariff. This means that no matter how little or how much stuff you own, you will pay for the weight of the items being shipped. Ask your mover if you have any doubts.

When is the best time to move?

This depends on the day of the week and month. Here is some context to better explain; most people work between 8 AM and 6/7 PM. Remember, traffic is heavy before 9 AM, 12-3 PM, and 4-6 PM. Also, consider the time of the year and the areas you are moving to or from. Another possible factor is a school for elementary, middle, and high school. As well as other variables such as downtown or other heavily trafficked areas.

How long will it take to move my home?

There is no easy way to provide a clear answer. It really depends on the volume of items you have, furniture size/weight, and customer preparedness (i.e. making sure all boxes are already packed, drawers and cabinets are empty, labeling, permissions to access properties or parking permits. There is so much that may impact the moving process; the answer is “preparedness” if you’re ready, the move will be done seamlessly.

How much will my move cost?

Hourly Rates: Are charged by the hour. Wee-Move charges (local moves) at the time the customer or authorized representative signs the “Start Time” and cuts off upon signing the “End Time”. A minimum hour is required for any move but any time past the minimum hourly fee is charged in fifteen (15) minute increments. For example: If we worked 2 hours and 15 minutes then that’s all that you will pay. Some moving companies charge the full hour past the hour. We strongly believe we should only charge what we actually work. Anything past that is just plain wrong.

Out-of-Town Rates: Are based on the moving estimate you chose. For example, Some options can include loading plus a driver to take your moving truck to the new city, full service which includes loading/unloading and travel to & from, or any option that can be offered for your move.

Please Note: Moving home is very different from moving an office because the furniture or items moved sometimes require special equipment and extra manpower in order to move.

How and when do I pay the movers?

In-town hourly rates are due upon signing the “End Time” and out-of-town rates usually require a deposit and balance paid in full before leaving for the new destination.

How much should I tip my movers?

This is entirely up to you as a customer. You may want to ask yourself how was your moving experience, did you have any problems with the workers, whether are there any damages, and so forth. If you feel that you received a higher standard of service than what you originally expected, movers will appreciate the amount you choose to tip.

#MovingTip: A good rule of thumb is $5-$10 dollars per hour worked (per mover).

Is valuation necessary?

No, you can choose to do your own walkthrough before the movers arrive. A valuation is essentially a review of your belongings prior to being handled. Our movers do this to detect damages that were not caused by our staff. If the mover doesn’t do the walk-through valuation they can also take pictures as each item is being moved.

#MovingTip: Even though most movers will let you know beforehand, a great way to prevent any misunderstandings is by taking before and after pictures of your belongings. This will serve as proof in the event that a claim for damages is necessary.

Why do I need to empty out my furniture?

There are two main reasons:

  1. To ensure the safety of our workers. If a furniture item still has things inside, this will add weight to the item, thus causing a potential unnecessary risk to our workers.
  2. When the furniture is loaded into the moving truck sometimes it is necessary to place items on their sides or even upside down. Any items left inside the furniture can be damaged as they are being handled. Please Note: If there were any items left inside, the customer assumes the risk of damage, thus holding Wee-Move harmless.

Are there any items that can’t be moved?

Yes, this is a broad subject that can be determined by the moving company directly or per regulations when transporting goods. If the mover determines to move certain items that can pose a safety risk or are considered hazardous conditions, we reserve the right to decline to move any item we deem necessary. This includes but is not limited to: human waste (of any kind), excessive animal hair or dander, excessive dust, mold or mildew, strong odors, presence of pests such as rodents or insects, faulty steps or staircases, non-cleared pathways, and generally any situation that may pose a personal risk to our movers such as domestic disputes or violent/illegal activity present or left unsaid prior or during our arrival. Please Note: Hazardous condition fees will apply if we service your property without disclosing these conditions or if we choose to work past these conditions.
